Middle East Update:
The U.S. postpones any military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days as both parties continue dialogue and conversations. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), ~11MM bpd of oil production has been disrupted as of March 23, 2026, ~10% of pre-war global production volumes.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
Winnipeg based Harvest Acquisitions, an investment group focused on acquiring Canadian agribusinesses, acquired Calgary based Matex Control Chemical, a manufacturer of environmentally safe drilling fluids and proprietary vegetable oil-based lubricants from Richardson International Ltd. This represents Harvest’s first acquisition since inception. Matex operates from a 50,000 sq. ft. plant, offering downhole lubricants, specialty polymers, foams, tool lubricants, blast hole stabilizers etc.
UK based Aurora Energy Research announced the acquisition of Calgary based EDC Associates Ltd., a specialty consulting firm with expertise in the Alberta’s power market The acquisition strengthens Aurora’s local expertise and market coverage across the Alberta electricity market and will complement Aurora’s global research capabilities.
Calgary based Ampere Alliance Ltd., an aggregator of electrical and instrumentation companies across North America, announced the acquisition of Salmon Arm, BC based Valid Manufacturing Ltd., an engineering and manufacturer focused on electrical, power generation, water & wastewater, and vehicle products. The acquisition enhances Ampere’s manufacturing and engineering expertise.
Other:
Spruce Grove based Energera Inc., a provider of energy technology solutions including diesel fuel delivery and sand separation technology, entered receivership on March 17, 2026 with over $39MM owed. Energera employs over 130 personnel in Canada, the U.S. and South America. A&M is appointed receiver.
According to the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), Canadian power generation is projected to increase by 30% to 100% between today and 2050, driven by an increase in power needs from new AI data centres.
